National Groundwater Awareness Week March 6-12, 2016

2nd Biennial Great Plains LID Research and Innovation Symposium
Low impact development (LID) is a land planning and engineering approach for enhanced stormwater management. The diversity and extremes of Great Plains climate and site conditions generate significant challenges for successful LID implementation. A wide variety of region-specific topics will be discussed through keynote presentations, break-out sessions, and a half-day optional tour of Omaha green infrastructure projects.

Zero Waste 101
Attendees will also be provided the background on Zero Waste, learn how to measure their waste, recycling and composting; provide strategies for reduce and reuse; and help decrease their waste bill. This webinar is appropriate for both small and large businesses alike.

Moving Toward Zero Waste in Office Settings
This webinar will feature case study presentations from schools that have implemented mini-bin programs and other changes to reduce custodial labor and the use of bag liners, while at the same time improving recycling rates and reducing contamination. In addition to describing operational details, presenters will share steps they took to educate and build support with office workers and other stakeholders.

Environmental Compliance for the Conservation Reserve Program
This webinar will assist NRCS conservation planners, FSA employees, agency partners, and Technical Service Providers to understand NRCS and FSA responsibilities for Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) environmental compliance, and how to properly document the results of the CRP Environmental Evaluation process.

Waitrose’s Experience’s Using Self-contained Hydrocarbon Systems
The webinar will address a range of topics, including the factors that motivated the company’s decision to use self-contained hydrocarbon systems, system design specifics, refrigerant leak rate reductions, and energy performance relative to standard HFC-based systems, safety and maintenance considerations, and the broader market potential for these type of systems.

Conservation by Design: Promoting Resilient, Sustainable Lands and Waters in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes
The webinar will detail the process being employed to achieve this objective in several contexts, discuss a preliminary suite of ecological, socioeconomic, and cultural conservation targets, and identify expected products that comprise these Landscape Conservation Designs. Finally, we will discuss the overarching objective of these initiatives, which is the effective and efficient leveraging of conservation knowledge, capacities, and resources to achieve and sustain ecosystem functions and values of lands and waters for current and future generations.

NOAA Monthly Climate and Drought Summary and Outlook
This is a National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and climate partners monthly briefing that covers the region from the Rockies to the Great Lakes. Subject matter includes a summary of past and current conditions in terms of many climate variables like snowpack, temperatures, precipitation, etc.

Natural Resources and Biodiversity Conservation in Organic Production
The USDA National Organic Program has released new guidance concerning Natural Resources and Biodiversity Conservation. The guidance provides examples of practices that support these conservation principles and demonstrate compliance with USDA organic regulations. This webinar will discuss the guidance and opportunities for USDA NRCS to support producers as they implement these conservation practices.
